It was pretty amazing to have an apostle of the Lord tell us to "tell your folks I say hi"! Meeting him was not an earth shattering powerful experience, it was more of a reminder that the Lord uses ordinary good people with a desire to serve to work His wonders. That said I do know that we are led by prophets, seers, and revelators who do speak for the Almighty God as they guide us in these last days.
This week was probably the best of my mission so far. We worked like crazy and taught more lessons than I have ever to this point. It was actually double quite a few weeks I've had. Even more importantly so many of the lessons were awesome! One of the people that we have been working with has just transformed before my eyes over the last 4 months that I have been here and working with her. Another of our new investigators was able to come to stake conference in Newark because we miraculously found a member willing to give her a ride. We drew out the Plan of Salvation in sidewalk chalk at the park and were able to talk to a couple people about it. It was just a fun week to be a missionary. And of course we had the funny not as inspiring moments too. We taught a teenage boy at the park Thursday night and he seemed pretty interested. He said he would read the intro of the Book of Mormon and agreed to meet with us the next night same time and place. When we got there the next night he saw us coming and literally climbed over a giant fence and ran away! Ok...? And another day we were just getting out of an appointment and were walking down the street when a very drunk homeless man tried to get our attention. "Hermanasss..." (in a very slurred spanish accent) we had seen him before and knew he was pretty crazy so we tried to ignore him and just keep walking when I suddenly get hit in the back by an empty Red Bull can! Haha we just looked at each other like "is this really happening? Did he just throw that at us?" We stopped because he was clearly very anxious to talk to us. He was not making a lot of sense but we think he was asking where the missionaries before us went so we tried to explain that they moved to a different part of NJ, but we were very distracted by the fact that he was literally chewing on the bottom of his beard...I don't know if you can picture that, but it was quite the experience! It was a great week missionary wise, but also personally. The majority of the week I had tons of energy and was in a pretty stellar mood! For those of you who know me very well you know that is a fairly unusual occurrence. I don't think my companion quite knew how to respond haha and that's ok because I didn't quite know what to do with myself either, but it was awesome! I don't know how long this will last, but I'll take it!
At a multi-stake conference yesterday a new stake was created called the Liberty Park Stake, and our bishop got called as the new stake president!
Highlight of the week though had to be meeting Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. We happened to stop by the church to use the wifi to sync our iPads while he was there interviewing people for the new stake presidency! He was super nice of course and we chatted with him a little bit about the way the new stake was going to be organized. It was fun to get the scoop a day before everyone else ;) It was pretty amazing to have an apostle of the Lord tell us to "tell your folks I say hi"! I love you all!
