This week was a really good one! We are still basically doing the same thing we have been doing for the last month, we are about halfway through delivering the packets and we only have 2 weeks left so we really have to buckle down! We don't want to leave any for whoever is here next transfer to have to deliver. It has been amazing to see how interested in family history people are. I had heard that it was becoming a very popular hobby, but I had never really known anyone outside of the church to be super interested in it! I think part of that problem may have been that I just didn't know all that many people out side the church...But as I have been meeting with all these people that requested info about doing family history research at the fair I have definitely seen that Malachi's prophesy is being fulfilled. It is the last days and people's hearts are certainly being turned to their fathers even though most of them don't understand why that is!
We also had a zone conference this week. That means that our zone got together with 2 other zones to be trained by President Taggart and the assistants. It is always a powerful and motivating meeting, and this time it was mostly about how important it is to focus on the basics. That the more simply we can teach the gospel the more powerful impact it will have. That is something that has always been one of my biggest weaknesses as a missionary because I just have so many things that I think are all so interesting and important, it is hard for me to narrow it down and figure out what is most important for people to understand at the beginning. I'm recommitting to really focus on that and work on it though! That is why Preach My Gospel is so important and valuable as a missionary tool. It helps us boil the gospel down to the basics.
One bit of personal revelation that I received at zone conference was pretty cool, I hope I can share it in a way that makes sense. The thought came to my mind that "there are a lot of different truths in our lives. The question is which truths are important enough for you to build your life around?" The way that that statement applies to each of us will be different but it is true. The world gives us so many different ideas about what truths we should build our lives around. It would have us base our lives on somewhat selfish things like our careers or our sexual orientation and then laughs at people who try to take a stand and say no, those things are not what I am going to choose to make most important. It is not popular to choose to base our lives around things like family and religion, but those are truths just like any others in our lives. And living our lives based on certain truths is going to lead to greater joy and peace than other truths might lead to. I don't know if that makes sense haha but it is something that I've thought about a lot this week!
I hope you all have a great Halloween!
Love yous!
