My new area is called North Hanover because it is the North Hanover ward, but I actually live in Bordentown. It's funny because all my areas have been named after a different city than the one I actually live in. The North Hanover area seems very similar to Sparta, very rural and open which is awesome! The main difference is that it is totally flat! Sparta was all hills and woods so you could never see very far unless you were at the top of a hill, but here there is a lot of open farm land and it's super flat! There are actually straight roads that go on for miles! The most unique thing about this area is that about half of it is taken up by a joint military base. It contains McGuire Air Force Base and Fort Dix. Most of the active members in the ward are military which presents a unique challenge because families are constantly moving in and out and also men are frequently getting deployed. I think our Scout master and the 1st counselor in the Young Men's presidency just recently got deployed so they rarely have all the callings filled. It is a super cool ward though and since we are the only missionaries in the ward we have meal appointments most evenings so that is pretty nice! The main downside of the military base from a missionary perspective is that we are not allowed to proselyte there and that is where the majority of the population of this area lives! Oh well, we will just have to have the members do great member missionary work in there!
My companion is Sister Gattud, she is from the Philippines and is actually a temple square missionary! They get 3 months of being in another mission to get the full proselyting experience and this is where she got sent! She is awesome! I'm running out of time so I will tell you more about that next week!
Funny moment from my last week in Sparta: We were going down stairs along the side of a very steep driveway whilst delivering packets. It was dark and most of the ground was covered with a dense layer of leaves. I decided to have fun and bound down the stairs which would have been great were it not for the leaf covered rock at the bottom of the stairs. Landed right on it, my ankle gave right out (no real damage done), and I very gracefully ate it. I guess some of my soccer skills of hitting the ground hard without injuring myself have stuck with me haha because it could have gone far worse than it did! According to S. Godfrey I didn't flash the world which is pretty impressive for face planting in a skirt if I do say so myself! I layed on the ground for a bit just to make sure everything was working properly and also because I was laughing too hard to get up! Good times :) My companions could probably write a book of all my dumb/clumsy moments!
The apartment we moved into belonged to elders before and it was disgusting! I will send a video to show what I'm talking about, but don't worry, we got it livable.
Love you all!
