Well...this week was pretty slow because my poor companion was quite ill for two days so we weren't able to get out of the apartment those two days. It did give me a chance to finally unpack though and get caught up on a few things like writing in my journal and studying random gospel topics to my heart's content! So that was good I guess, haha I did get a little stir crazy, but not too bad. Then this weekend we went on our first exchange of the transfer with the sisters in East Brunswick. I got to go there and I was with Sister Ossila Morinvil who is from Haiti. She is a hoot and a half! The language barrier was a little difficult, but we had a good time and hopefully she was able to get something out of it!
Since last week I didn't get to expound and not much happened this week I guess I get a chance to talk about something I learned last week from Spencer Taggart! He talked a lot about the importance of having a clear, concise vision. He defined vision as "knowing where you want to go and why you want to get there". Our vision as a mission has been "Become God's Instrument" and it fit pretty well with what my personal vision for my mission had been. But the cool thing is that that vision doesn't have to change after my mission! My specific goals for how to do that might need adjusting, but my deepest desire is still to be a willing a capable servant of the Lord throughout my life. He taught us a lot about making our vision specific and something that we can base all of our future decisions off of. Everything can be run through the filter of whether of not our choice will move us along the path to our goal, or will distract us from it. Kind of the good, better, best idea. We can spend a lot of energy doing a lot of good things, and be really busy all the time, but if the things we spend our effort on aren't connected to our ultimate vision then we might get to a point where we are confused with why we haven't made the progress we expected even though we have been working hard!
Another thing he helped me understand was that in order to receive additional guidance from the Lord, we need to be doing the things he has already asked us to do. He isn't going to condemn us further by giving additional instruction if we have shown we aren't in the habit of following His instructions so far.
So those were just some things I have been thinking about lately and that I was grateful to learn/understand better!
This next week we have another exchange and then MLC, so we will be keeping busy and seeing miracles! Hopefully we will be able to meet with more of our people here and start seeing the progress!
Love you all!
